Our tracking data is a continuously updated aggregate of well-respected national polls. Our models use the resulting graphs and data tables in combination with political analysis to project the results of the 2008 Iowa caucuses, New Hampshire Primaries, both parties’ National Primaries, and, ultimately, the General Election. DailyWrit’s full calendar of the 2008 Primaries, Caucuses, and Conventions can be found here. DailyWrit’s Iowa Caucus Models track the popularity of both parties’ frontrunners. Similarily, our New Hampshire Models follow the candidates ahead of this Primary. Our more general Democratic National Primary Models track Clinton, Obama, Gore, and Edwards. They model national popularity, and can be found here. The Republican National Primary Models track Giuliani, McCain, Thompson, and Romney - and can be found here.

Additionally, our new General Election Model tracks how the parties’ respective frontrunners (currently former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani the Republican and Senator Clinton the Democrat) would perform in a hypothetical, head-to-head election. It can be found here.

If you are looking to save a copy of any of our graphs or you are just curious about my data, the excel file DailyWrit uses for all of our Election 2008 Coverage can be found here as a .xls file: DailyWrit Polling Data (Updated July 5).

Joe Biden and the Judiciary

August 26th, 2008

Barack Obama has chosen a running mate that shares his views on fiscal policy, healthcare, education, the war on terror, and…Clarence Thomas? It seems that the presumptive Democratic nominee, fresh off his remarks at Saddleback, has selected Senator Joe Biden (D-DE) as his VP. Biden is widely-respected as the Chair of the Senate Committee on […]

Surprisingly Candid McCain and Obama Discuss Current SCOTUS Makeup, Nomination Process at the Saddleback Civil Forum

August 17th, 2008

Earlier tonight, Senators John McCain and Barack Obama joined Pastor Rick Warren at his California megachurch for an event pegged as “The Saddleback Civil Forum on the Presidency.” The interviews, each an hour in length, were separated by thirty-six tense seconds in which the presumptive nominees shared the stage (and an awkward hug [video here!]). […]

Is Early Voting Constitutional?

August 12th, 2008

All of this John Edwards business has got me thinking about early voting. I am registered to vote in Texas, where Election Codes 81.001 and 82.005 specify that I can ”vote early” – up to seventeen days before any federal election. Say, hypothetically, that John Edwards had rallied for a victory in South Carolina and […]

Statistics Show Obama Would Likely Redefine SCOTUS as 6-3 Liberal Majority; McCain Could Engineer an 8-1 Conservative Supermajority

August 8th, 2008

I’ve been a little surprised by how scarcely the Supreme Court is being mentioned during this election cycle. Especially as the dust was settling from Heller, I expected more talk about the role our next president may play in determining the trajectory of the Court. Recently, however, I’ve noticed that some smaller conservative blogs have […]

A Theory of Decreasing Expectations

February 26th, 2008

Primary and caucus results are all about expectations. Candidates spend the weeks before an election day campaigning hard and attacking their opponents, but they suddenly hit the brakes about 48 hours before the vote and begin setting up low expectations for the results. The point of this move is to create the perception of success, […]
