I’ve never noticed these before, but the Supreme Court posts brief summaries of each case on its website before the cases are published in the official US Reports. You can find the summaries on the Court’s site here. I also compiled a PDF of the summaries for OT08 cases that you can find here.

The summaries are typically only a sentence or two long. This is the summary for NWAMUDO:

The Voting Rights Act of 1965 permits all political subdivisions, including appellant utility district, to seek to bail out from the federal preclearance requirements set forth in §5 of the Act; in light of its statutory holding, the Court need not resolve whether §5 is constitutional.

Update: I’ve compiled PDF’s for each term going back to OT99.
