Randy Newman Critiques The Court During Apple Keynote
Published by Kedar January 15th, 2008 in Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Antonin Scalia, Justices and JudgesRandy Newman sang a rather interesting song at the conclusion of the Macworld Keynote Speech. Here was the relevant portion of his song:
Its pissing me off a little that the Supreme Court is going to outlive me. Couple young Italian fellas and a brother on the Court now, too. But I defy you to find me, anywhere in the world, two Italians as tight-assed as the two Italians we got here. And as for the brother- well Pluto’s not a planet anymore either.
You can find the .wav file here. Calling Justices Scalia and Alito ‘tight-ass?’ Calling Justice Clarence Thomas a ‘brother?’ Oh dear.
The “Pluto” remark was offputting too. Was he revoking Thomas’ “black card”? Seriously? Randy F’in Newman? If someone had said that about Obama he would be tarred as a racist before he got offstage.
Calling Scalia and Alito tight-ass is almost complimentary. And Clarence Thomas…. it was not racist.
I have seen “A Few Words in Defense of Our Country” performed live by Mr. Newman on several occasions — the audience was more than complimentary.
Ours is an Empire that is in disarry [to be charitable.
Randy Newman is no racist. He never stood on his piano bench and shouted “god damn america”.
This song in its entirety is a biting and accurate commentary on what Mr. Newman has observed in his ~65 years observing America and the World.
